September 3, 2017: backyard wedding in Columbus, OH
I shot my second backyard wedding in June. Mandy and Wayne live near Dayton but decided to get married in Columbus at the house of one of her friends. We were worried the location was gonna be rained out. Thankfully, the weather held together long enough to keep the ceremony outdoors. Mandy's cousin did an excellent job setting up the decorations. Believe it or not, she'd never coordinated a wedding previously!
The ceremony was unique in a couple ways. First, Mandy's father, who walked her down the aisle, is a minister himself. Second, the shindig ended with a prayer circle.
After the guests carried their chairs to the reception tent, I took Amanda, Wayne, and their family to a large field near the back of the lot. By then, ample cloud cover had diffused the afternoon sunlight into a soft glow. I couldn't have asked for much better conditions photographically-speaking!
Despite the heat and humidity, this wedding featured one of the more active dance floors I've seen.
Dinner was followed by toasts from the best man and the maid of honor. Then, Mandy and Wayne cut the cake together. They were relatively tame with the "smashing" part. :-)
People stayed late into the evening for continued conversation. Mandy and Wayne didn't exit the party in a grand finale, but they lit their sparklers nonetheless around the yard's fire pit. This was my first time shooting this tradition, and I'm very pleased with the results.
Enjoy the rest of your Labor Day weekend, everybody! Keep your eyes peeled (whatever that means) for more Columbus weddings in the next week or two. (If you'd like to see the first backyard wedding I photographed, click here.)
