July 18, 2017: Christmas vacation

I know it's July, but I've got some Christmas photos to share with you folks.  Better late than never, right?

I took four 35mm cameras with me for the annual family visits in Alabama (film stocks in parentheses):

Yashica Electro 35 GSN (Kodak Portra 160)

Canon A-1 (Kodak Portra 400)

- Konica Auto S3 (Kodak Portra 400)

- Yashica Lynx 14 (Fuji Superia X-tra 800)

The drive from DC to Auburn was fairly uneventful, but I did manage to snap a few favorites at gas stations and rest stops.

As you can see, I severely underexposed a bunch of the night shots at my parents' house.  One of these days I'm going to learn to sacrifice shutter speeds to gain contrast and control grain.  Alternatively, I might swap to Ilford Delta 3200 (a high-sensitivity black-and-white film) for all of my low light needs.

The Jacksons are no strangers to Settlers of Catan.  I can't remember who won, but good times were had regardless.  Most of this batch was taken with my Canon A-1.  That camera (and its assorted lenses) definitely produced the sharpest results over the course of the week.

Christmas Day, we ate a hearty breakfast and exchanged gifts.  I managed to expose my frames decently well with the Yashica Lynx 14 despite the fact that it doesn't have an elaborate light meter.  All right, full confession: I cheated via the readings from my Canon A-1.

We visited my wife Laura's family for the latter part of the trip.  Her sister Julia and Julia's boyfriend (now husband) Ryan joined us for a brief trip to NASA's Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville.  I'm pretty sure I'd been there as a kid, but I didn't remember any of it this time.  That evening, we played some board game Ryan brought from his childhood years in Germany.

In conclusion, here are some photos of our canines (Pepper, Jordan, and Raisin).

Oh, yeah: I promised photos from Italy last time.  We'll see if I make good on that when I return.
